When I first did Breathwork I had no idea what I was getting into! I just thought it would be some form of meditation and I might be able to relax a bit. I also thought I was gonna be with a bunch of new age hippies, burning sage and fending off evil spirits. Little did I know that I would accessing some of my deepest emotions and core belief systems and that I would be challenged to face these things head on. The greatest gift I could ever ask for! This experience led me to continue practicing Breathwork and train to facilitate classes. I have experienced profound joy through this practice and truly believe I have been called to help others in their own personal transformation through this practice, in conjunction with coaching. This profound combination brings results!
Breathwork in your Recovery
Breathwork can be performed in a variety of ways. One of these methods utilizes “circular breathing” where you are only breathing through your mouth. Some call it Holotropic Breathwork, or Shamanic Breathwork, but because of the modernization of techniques and styles, it really is a style within itself. This method of Breathwork is very relaxing, can be used as a form of meditation, helps release stress and tension being held in the body and can be extremely therapeutic. Emotional pains may surface in this process and healing can often begin to take place. Often times this healing is the impetus for helping people move forward in life, resulting in real transformation. Breathwork can be done in a group setting, with individuals and with couples.
The Origin of Breathwork
Breathwork has been around for thousands of years, in various forms. Recently, it has become more modernized, but the technique itself is derived from Pranayama breathing. Pranayama is the practice of controlling breath, which is our vital life source, or Prana. Over time people have developed different styles and techniques to fit their practice and teach others, and have come up with different names for it.
